Social Networking Sites As Job Search?

May 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

via Cheezhead, we learn about a new employment website targeting the Life Sciences industry: Beaker.com.
Obviously, I can’t resist posting about this site so I can make the same Muppets gag that Joel did.
But also, because I think this sort of thing will be a trend for the foreseeable future.
Niche Job Boards have long carved out, […]

… According to Weddles.
If you don’t know Weddles, they have, for several years now, published a guide to online job search. The poll I’m going to reference is an online poll from Weddle’s readers. They seem to have a decent grasp on the realities of the modern job search:

I can’t say that I blame them.
Apparently, this company allows employers to collect writing sample from job applicants. Then, for a fee, WrittenInc will evaluate these employees based on their handwriting, or, as the company says, their “written body language.”
That’s it! […]

If Possible, Craigslist Job Searching Now Even Better

March 6th, 2008 · 2 Comments

I remember when craigslist was just a coastal thing. Earlier in the decade when I lived in NYC, I got ALL of my apartments on craigslist. But when I would tell people back home about it, they didn’t know what I was talking about.
Now, everyone probably knows someone who’s sold a guitar, found a roommate […]

Ok, I can explain the odd title and the unusual picture. Stick with me. (Tip for younger readers, that’s Laverne and Shirley)
Once again Cheezhead led me to some interesting job search statistics.
This report by the Conference Board samples and outlines the volume of online help-wanted classified postings nationwide. It shows some interesting data pointing to […]
