Brandon from New Jersey asks:
“I just had an interview that I think went exceptionally well. But now of course, I’m having second thoughts. Are there any cues or clues you can point to in an interview and say, yeah, you probably got the job?”
Brian’s answer after the break:
Brian says:
This is nothing scientific, but there are a few key phrases I would look to hear, especially at the end of an interview. If you hear some of the following, I think you’re probably being seriously considered:
- “You’ll be hearing from us very soon.” This, as opposed to just saying “You’ll hear back from us.” Or saying nothing at all.
- “What salary range are you looking for?” If they don’t think to ask this, then they’ve probably already decided you’ve reached the end of the road.
- “Are you sure it’s ok for us to contact your previous employers for references?” Again, if they’re thinking to ask this, it’s because they’re considering you seriously and are thinking of the next logical steps.
- “When are you available to work?” This is the best clue you can get, IMHO.
